Caravanning has a bad image, cultivated by the likes of Clarkson. I get as irritated by getting stuck behind a slow old tin box as anyone else, but those are usually once-a-year summer holiday tourists whose cars are woefully underpowered for the job. Reminds me of this video...
Proper caravanners have big cars which can pull at legal speed limits. They caravan all year round - even in the snow! The top picture opposite was taken in 2001 when I had a 4x4.
Anyone who hasn't been caravanning probably won't understand how much fun you can
have. Especially if they haven't tried rallying! We rally with the Derbyshire Centre
of the Caravan Club. Not that I've anything against any other club, I just prefer
the CC.
The Derbyshire centre now has a website which you can visit.
Our Outfit
We’ve downsized a little recently. Since my little accident with the 1993 Hobby Prestige
520, we’ve gone back down to a 1994 Leda Pennine (happy memories of out old 1990
model!) and now tow this with the comfortable and capable Volvo XC90. Look me up
if you see me on a rally.
In summer with the awning it used to be like the bottom
picture opposite, before a fire destroyed our Senator and all our awnings. Although
that picture shows our old Superstar. We’ve now bought another Trio King to suit
the Pennine.
We haven't caravanned as much recently, so I've cut out the old info.
